Brosnan was re-engaged by the client to deliver this upmarket lodge on the edge of Lake Hawea following the successful completion of the ‘The Lindis’, a luxury lodge in the Ahuriri Valley.
The Mt Isthmus lodge comprises four bedsuites, each with ensuite, covering a total floor area of approximately 660m2.
As with ‘The Lindis’, the building’s silhouette has been uniquely designed to work in harmony with its alpine surrounds; the curved roof echoing the peaks and valleys bordering the lake.
The project’s remote location also brings about significant logistical challenges combined with exposure to extreme wind conditions, which must be taken into account as the various structural elements are erected.
Mt Isthmus is currently in Stage 1 of construction, which involves foundations, precast panels and floor slabs. This will be followed by structural steel, roof build-up, exterior wall framing and roof cladding (Stage 2) before the interior cladding and finishes (Stage 3).
This ambitious architectural design presents the team with several staging challenges during construction but will ultimately lead to a world class finish.
