Brosnan Construction was commissioned by the Ministry of Education to refurbish the existing ‘N Block’ at Takapuna Grammar School.
The project included demolition of part of the existing structure and spanning a central courtyard with a new roof structure to create useable internal space. The space was then re-modelled and fully refurbished to provide new Science, Break Out and Resource rooms.
A major challenge facing the project team was working in the middle of four classroom blocks whilst maintaining appropriate isolation between the on-going school operations and the continually changing site requirements.
Nearing the conclusion of this project the team also converted an existing teaching space into a food tech area. This was completed over the Christmas holiday period ready for the commencement of the new school year.

Oak Shores is an apartment remediation project. The scope of works includes remediation of the external cladding, structural elements, balconies, balustrades, externals walls, window joinery, roofs, courtyard, basement walls and addressing passive fire non-compliant works. The ECI team has consisted of key Auckland based managers and the Queenstown delivery team to ensure the client receives the full breadth of Brosnan’s knowledge and capability.
Enabling commercial tenants to resume trading in the shortest possible timeframe is a challenge in itself when repairing earthquake damaged premises, but when further damage is only discovered during the project, then it can place strain on both timelines and budget. Dealing with these issues professionally is paramount to success.
The key to this project was the way in which Brosnan Construction worked with their associated trades and supply chain during a short timescale to ensure delivery of this phase of the construction.
Repairing any commercial building damaged by an earthquake brings with it a series of challenges; but when that building is also a high-tech support centre for Canterbury and the South Island, which needs to remain working 24/7 throughout the construction phase and that’s a whole different level of difficulty.
