The Glenside Terraces project involved the rebuild of 33, 2 and 3 storey urban townhouse units, as well as construction of ground retail spaces to the 3 storey dwellings accessible from Symonds Street.
Brosnan successfully negotiated the construction of the 14,000 square metre industrial offices and warehouse on Roscommon Road, Wiri and was appointed the project by the Hugh Green Group.
Brosnan engaged with Auckland Zoo and Regional Facilities Auckland to construct a new off exhibit holding facility designed for small mammals. The facility has five holding areas all with access from a main services corridor with double doors, into a covered and enclosed holding pen and a cage area with shallow pond at the opposite end. Each holding pen has a bunded upstand and separate drainage to prevent any cross contamination.
The $320m Christchurch Justice & Emergency Services Precinct is an anchor project, of the Christchurch rebuild led by the Ministry of Justice The precinct is located on the block defined by Lichfield, Colombo, Tuam and Durham Streets encompasses approximately 40,000 square metres of floor space over five floors.
Brosnan Construction were awarded the contract to construct an 800 square metres 2 storey redevelopment in the growing North Canterbury township of Woodend. The scope for Woodend School included a new two storey eight classroom block. In addition to this, there are some minor weather-tightness repairs for the three remaining buildings. At the completion of the project, the demolition of a two classroom cebus unit will be completed.
PFR's sensory science unit is an internationally recognised research department that tests both expert and public consumer responses to food and beverage. The scope of this project covered the refurbishing and fit out of L1 of the Padfield Building located at OFR's Mt Albert campus. This included the demolition of existing open plan working areas, offices and some laboratories, and the construction of a new sensory unit and office space. Included in the works is a kitchen area for consumer food preparation, sensory booths, open plan office with meeting rooms and toilet facilities in an area of approximately 700m2.
Starting with a large, empty warehouse, the need to convert it to a state-of-the-art hospitality training facility and a very tight timeline placed the Brosnan team under significant pressure to deliver. The fact the finished product also went on to win an Award is just one indication of the successful outcome of the project.
The ever-growing population of New Zealand means that our educational facilities are under constant review as the student roll also continues to grow. Add to that the requirement to cater for students with special needs and you have a project brief which is far from straightforward, including three additional classrooms and a special needs satellite unit, with related ancillary spaces.

Oak Shores is an apartment remediation project. The scope of works includes remediation of the external cladding, structural elements, balconies, balustrades, externals walls, window joinery, roofs, courtyard, basement walls and addressing passive fire non-compliant works. The ECI team has consisted of key Auckland based managers and the Queenstown delivery team to ensure the client receives the full breadth of Brosnan’s knowledge and capability.

North Shore Hospital Building 5 was constructed in the 1960’s for the purpose of being occupied as staff accommodation. The structure of the building consists of an inadequately filled concrete masonry reinforced exterior cladding with a hollow clay block used as formwork for the 70mm concrete floors. The 2nd story resides of a mix of internal concrete brace walls and structural timber holding the light weight roof. The new purpose of the building is to create a hospital outpatients ward on level zero and offices and teaching facilities on level one and two.
If you were to list the potential issues that might hinder the timely and successful completion of a project, you’d probably pick this one to provide a living example of how to overcome them. Not only a working hospital environment, but the added tension of renovating birthing suites – the team had it all on this project.
Working in the heart of a live hospital environment always poses a number of challenges. This project involved the refurbishment and modernisation of six family lounge rooms across different levels at the North Shore Hospital and had a short timeframe for delivery, resulting in the Brosnan team having to be highly creative with some of their working solutions.
Repairing any commercial building damaged by an earthquake brings with it a series of challenges; but when that building is also a high-tech support centre for Canterbury and the South Island, which needs to remain working 24/7 throughout the construction phase and that’s a whole different level of difficulty.
The key to this project was the way in which Brosnan Construction worked with their associated trades and supply chain during a short timescale to ensure delivery of this phase of the construction.
